 Sermon Notes - Choice 1

Admitting Need

The Reality Choice

Realize I'm not God

I admit that I am powerless to control my tendency to do the wrong thing and that my life is unmanageable.

Happy are those who know they are spiritually poor.
 Rev. Rick Harmick

All life's hurts, hang-ups and habits have the same
root cause: our tendency is to play God.

     1. I must humbly admit I need help.

     2. I must humbly ask God for help.

     3. I must humbly accept help from other people.

 Sunday, October 4 - Choice 2  Sermon Notes - Choice 2

Getting Help

The Hope Choice

Earnestly believe that God exists

that I matter to Him, and that He
has the power to help me recover.

Happy are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

Rev. Dale Byrd

Letting Go

The Commitment Choice

Consciously choose

to commit all my life and will
to Christ's care and control.

Happy are the meek.

Rev. Rick Hamrick

     Meekness is strength under control

Meekness has always been God's way for humanity

Meekness means I acknowledge God's holiness

          Confidence in who I am

          Confidence in whose I am

Consciously (its my decision)

choose to commit (over and over)

all my life and will (everything)

to Christ's care and control. (He loves me)

Coming Clean

The Housecleaning Choice

Openly examine

and confess my faults to myself,
to God, and to someone I trust.

Happy are the pure in heart.

Rev. Rick Hamrick

The basis of a pure heart is not how good you are,
but how good God is.

As you consider making the housecleaning choice, remember three things:

     1. Remember God's kindness.

     2. Remember God's faithfulness.

     3. Remember God's promises.

Repairing Relationships

The Relationship Choice

Evaluate all my relationships.

Offer forgiveness to those who have hurt me,
and make amends for harm I've done to others,
except when to do so would harm them or others.

Happy are those who are merciful to others.

Happy are those who work for peace.

Rev. Rick Hamrick

     Two truths about forgiveness:

Because I have been forgiven, I can forgive.

     The unforgiving become the unforgiven.
